  • Italian film director Lina Wertmüller was the first female director to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director in the history of the Academy Awards. In 1976 for "Seven Beauties".*

  • 1972 "marked the beginning of Wertmüller's golden age"** with The Seduction of Mimì (Mimì Metallurgico Ferito nell'Onore) 

  • Received an Honorary Academy Award in 2019 for Lifetime Achievement.

  • Met her mentor, director Federico Fellini, through a school friend's husband (Marcello Mastroianni)

  • Was a co-writer on Zeffirelli's 1972 film Brother Sun, Sister Moon.
